TMC-EC Tensions Surge in West Bengal Ahead of Polls

The ongoing tensions between the TMC and the Election Commission in poll-bound West Bengal have intensified. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee walked out of a meeting with the Chief Election Commissioner, alleging bias toward the BJP. The TMC demands the cessation of the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, accusing EC of procedural violations.

The faceoff between the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Election Commission (EC) in West Bengal has escalated. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee walked out of a meeting with Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, accusing him of arrogance and alleging the EC was operating under BJP's influence.

Banerjee, demanding a halt to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, is in Delhi with families impacted by the revision. She confronted police outside Banga Bhawan, alleging harassment. However, the police maintained the security was standard protocol.

The TMC has approached the Supreme Court regarding the ongoing SIR process. The party claims major procedural and legal violations and demands accountability from the EC. Meanwhile, special Commissioner of Police refuted Banerjee's claims, asserting that the presence outside Banga Bhawan was in line with VVIP security protocols.
