A Delhi court has found Karan guilty of culpable homicide for a vicious attack on Mithun during a Holi celebration in Nangloi, west Delhi, in 2022. The decision, based on eyewitness accounts and CCTV footage, highlights the severity of the assault carried out with a stick and stones.
The court dismissed the defense's claims of false implication and noted that Karan returned to the scene several times during the unprovoked attack. Efforts by bystanders to intervene were unsuccessful, as Karan continued assaulting Mithun, who was left motionless and later succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.
The ruling emphasized that Mithun's injuries were consistent with an intention to cause fatal harm. Despite delays in recording testimonies due to procedural and logistical issues, the court found the evidence overwhelming, leading to Karan's conviction under Section 304 (Part I) of the IPC. Sentencing arguments are set for Thursday.
