On Wednesday, Congress MLA Kawasi Lakhma, a former excise minister for Chhattisgarh, was released on interim bail from Raipur Central Jail following Supreme Court's decision a day prior. He was initially arrested by the Enforcement Directorate for his alleged role in a substantial liquor scam linked to money laundering.
Despite his release, Lakhma faces court-imposed restrictions barring him from residing in Chhattisgarh, though he may attend court hearings within the state. His arrest came amidst accusations of a multi-crore liquor scam they say operated during the rule of the Bhupesh Baghel Congress government, causing massive state financial losses.
Lakhma, a prominent tribal leader from Bastar, received overwhelming support from Congress leaders outside the jail. He remains resolute, vowing to continue his advocacy for tribal rights and protection of natural resources, expressing faith in the judiciary to ultimately reveal the truth.
