In a swift move, authorities suspended three police officers on charges of dereliction of duty after a juvenile detainee managed to escape from the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Ranchi. The suspension follows initial findings indicating the personnel failed to perform their duties adequately.
Ranchi's Senior Superintendent of Police, Rakesh Ranjan, confirmed the action, which comes after the detainee, who was being held at the Dumardaga juvenile home on theft charges, fled the medical facility due to a reported security lapse. The detainee had been admitted two days prior, complaining of severe stomach pain.
The juvenile, originally from the Khalari police station area, had surrendered to police just four days ago. Following his escape, an investigation into the incident and security measures is underway, officials said.
