An undertrial prisoner facing charges under the POCSO Act has reportedly committed suicide at Orai district jail. The deceased, identified as Manoj Kumar, was in judicial custody since March and allegedly ended his life by hanging himself in the prison toilet.
Kumar's death prompted prison authorities to initiate a swift response. Despite being found still breathing, he was declared dead upon arrival at the Orai Medical College. Jail Superintendent Neeraj Dev stated a high-level inquiry is in progress to ascertain how Kumar managed to execute the act undetected.
The investigation aims to uncover lapses in jail security and protocol adherence. Should negligence by the staff be confirmed, stringent disciplinary measures will be enforced, Dev emphasized, underlining the gravity of the incident and the administration's commitment to accountability.
