CPI(M) state secretary M V Govindan affirmed on Monday that the party's stance on the Sabarimala Temple women's entry is separate from the government's. As elections approach, this contentious issue has reignited in Kerala.
Govindan reminded that the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government had previously endorsed the Supreme Court's decision to permit women of all ages entry into the shrine. However, he emphasized that the party and government's positions can differ, dismissing assumptions that CPI(M) or LDF policies would mirror government actions.
The Sabarimala matter returned to prominence following the Supreme Court's review of related petitions, prompting opposition demands for clarity from the LDF government. The issue has once again sparked a political battle between CPI(M) and the opposition Congress.
