In an intriguing turn of events, a truck driver's allegations of being kidnapped and assaulted over a Rs 400 crore robbery have been exposed as false, Nashik rural police revealed on Monday. The alleged incident reportedly involved now-defunct Rs 2000 notes transported in a cash-carrying truck.

The man behind the complaint, Sandeep Patil, previously informed Ghoti police that on October 22 of the previous year, he had been waylaid by seven individuals. Patil claimed he was attacked in the Chorla Ghat area in Karnataka, where the assailants accused him of looting a truck carrying hawala money bound for Maharashtra.

A comprehensive probe by authorities uncovered discrepancies in Patil's story, such as inconsistencies in routes and timing. Consequently, the Igatpuri court released the seven arrested individuals, while Nashik rural police consider possible actions against Patil for fabricating the report.
