In Manipur's Imphal West district, truck drivers united in protest, halting the transportation of goods in response to the recent murder of a fellow driver. They are calling for significant measures against those responsible for the attack.
Gathering at Keithelmanbi, the drivers announced an indefinite suspension of truck movements along National Highway 37, which links Imphal and Jiribam. This action will persist until authorities implement robust security measures. The move was triggered by the killing of a West Bengal truck driver and injury to a police constable during a militant assault in Ukhrul district.
Manipur Police have initiated search operations to apprehend the culprits. M Tomba Singh, one of the protesting drivers, emphasized that essential goods are transported without bias, asking for better protection from potential threats. Another driver, highlighting the personal impact of the crime, appealed for support for the bereaved family of the slain driver, who leaves behind a daughter with an imminent wedding.
