Holi Crackdown: Mumbai Traffic Police Fine Violators Rs 3.17 Crore

During Holi festivities, Mumbai's traffic police conducted a city-wide operation, issuing 16,727 challans and collecting fines totaling Rs 3.17 crore. Multiple violations were addressed, including drunk driving and helmetless riding. Courts will deliberate on drunk driving cases and consider license suspensions under the Motor Vehicles Act.

Mumbai's traffic police took stringent action against traffic violations during the Holi celebrations, collecting a hefty Rs 3.17 crore in fines while issuing 16,727 challans. An official revealed that 159 cases of drunk driving were recorded amidst the enforcement drive.

The operation, spanning 12 noon to 7 pm, involved setting up checkpoints at crucial junctions, busy roads, and highways across Mumbai. Violations addressed included drunk driving, overspeeding, helmetless riding, triple-seat riding, signal jumping, and no-entry violations.

Individuals caught drunk driving were presented before the court, with authorities aiming to suspend their licenses under the Motor Vehicles Act. Notably, fines worth Rs 42,97,000 were levied for 4,317 helmetless riding incidents.
