Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology and Earth Sciences, and Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh, presented awards to 26 young medical professionals from across India for their outstanding contributions in various medical specialties.

The doctors, recognised at a healthcare conclave organised by a media house, were honoured for achievements in fields including oncology, paediatrics, endocrinology, orthopaedics, emergency medicine and other specialisations.

Recognising Young Talent in Healthcare

Dr Singh congratulated the organisers for recognising young doctors at an early stage of their careers, describing the initiative as an important step toward strengthening the country’s healthcare system.

He noted that awards given during the formative years of a professional’s career provide strong encouragement and motivation, compared to recognitions that come only after decades of service.

“Recognising young doctors early in their careers is important for strengthening the future of healthcare services in the country,” the minister said.

He added that such recognition encourages medical professionals to pursue excellence and continuously upgrade their knowledge in a rapidly evolving healthcare environment.

Medicine in an Era of Technological Change

During his address, Dr Singh highlighted the rapid transformation of the healthcare sector due to technological advancements and the growing role of artificial intelligence.

He said new technologies have significantly improved diagnosis, treatment and patient care, but emphasised that the role of doctors remains irreplaceable.

“While technology has enhanced medical practice, experience and clinical intuition of doctors continue to play a crucial role in patient care,” he said.

Expanding Scope of Medical Science

Reflecting on the evolution of medical education and practice, Dr Singh noted that earlier generations of doctors often studied a limited number of diseases in great depth to understand broader medical principles.

Today, however, the field of medicine has expanded significantly with multiple specialised branches and advanced treatment approaches.

At the same time, artificial intelligence is increasingly assisting with traditional learning processes and diagnostic tasks.

Need for Specialisation and Continuous Learning

The minister advised young doctors to focus on developing expertise in a specific area of medicine, while also continuously updating their knowledge.

He said the healthcare sector is becoming increasingly complex due to technological innovation, emerging diseases and changing healthcare needs.

“In such a rapidly evolving environment, young medicos should focus on specialised knowledge and keep upgrading their skills regularly,” he said.

Post-COVID Healthcare Challenges

Dr Singh also referred to the post-COVID healthcare landscape, where both communicable diseases and lifestyle-related illnesses continue to challenge healthcare systems.

This, he said, has made specialised knowledge and lifelong learning even more important for medical professionals.

Future Leaders of Indian Healthcare

Expressing confidence in the award recipients, the minister said many of them are likely to achieve major milestones in their careers.

He added that some of the young doctors honoured today may one day return to receive lifetime achievement awards for their contributions to the medical profession.

The event highlighted the growing role of young medical professionals in advancing healthcare services in India, particularly at a time when technology, innovation and specialised expertise are reshaping modern medicine.
