Massive Voter Roll Overhaul: Uttar Pradesh's Breakthrough SIR Exercise

Uttar Pradesh conducted a significant revision of electoral rolls with over 70.69 lakh inclusion claims and 2.68 lakh deletion objections from January 6 to March 6, 2026. The process involved verification of voter details, resolving complaints, and collaborating with political parties and the Election Commission to ensure seamless execution.

An extensive revision of the electoral rolls was carried out in Uttar Pradesh, with an overwhelming 70.69 lakh Form 6 claims for inclusion and 2.68 lakh objections for deletion received between January 6 and March 6, 2026, according to Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa.

The initiative, driven by the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), saw higher participation from women than men and involved the meticulous verification of details for over 3.26 crore voters. Numerous hearings and collaborations with political parties facilitated progress, while 5,82,877 booth level agents played an active role in the proceedings.

To support voters throughout the process, the Election Commission deployed help desks, mobile applications, and launched the 'Book a call with BLO' service. Notably, 92,497 complaints were lodged on the National Grievance Service Portal, most of which have been resolved, marking a high rate of responsiveness and efficiency.
