Pursuing a relentless war on drugs, Punjab has intensified efforts through its campaign 'Yudh Nashian De Virudh,' as reiterated by Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema. Over the past year, authorities registered 36,686 cases against 52,331 traffickers, leading to the seizure of more than 33,000 kilograms of narcotics.
Cheema highlighted enhanced financial investigations to attach properties amassed from drug trade proceeds. Village Defense Committees and 'Pinda De Pehredar' volunteers have been pivotal in reinforcing community vigilance, leading to numerous arrests and FIRs based on grassroots feedback.
Additionally, 'Operation Prahar' has been launched targeting organized crime networks, while future plans include bolstering cyber and forensic capabilities. The Drug and Socio-economic Census is set to roll out in April 2026, equipped with a new digital platform to enable data-driven interventions and strengthen the ongoing anti-drug battle.
