In a landmark transformation, President Droupadi Murmu announced that 82% of rural households in India now have access to tap water, a significant leap from the 17% recorded when the Jal Jeevan Mission launched in 2019.
During the Jal Mahotsav programme, she underscored the deep cultural ties that water has in India, emphasizing its connection to traditions, livelihoods, and community life. Murmu also praised the efforts of Union Jal Shakti Minister C R Patil and his team for this extraordinary progress.
The President highlighted the role of technology in improving water governance, praising platforms like the Sujalam Bharat App for enhancing transparency, planning, and community participation. She emphasized water conservation as a collective responsibility, urging society to treasure water as a heritage for future generations.
