In a disturbing turn of events, an elderly woman was beaten to death in Jharkhand's Gumla district, after being falsely accused of being a child lifter, according to local authorities.
The incident took place on Sunday night in the village of Lagaba, under the Bishunpur police station. Villagers, fueled by rumors, attacked the 55-year-old mentally challenged woman with sticks and stones, culminating in a tragic case of mob lynching, stated the police.
Superintendent of Police Harish Bin Zaman confirmed that eight individuals have been apprehended and charged under the relevant sections for the heinous act. Meanwhile, the victim's body remains unclaimed at Sadar Hospital, awaiting disposition, as no relatives have come forward yet.
