In a landmark decision, a fast-track court in Thane, Maharashtra, delivered a 10-year rigorous imprisonment sentence to a 34-year-old man for the sexual assault of a minor boy which occurred seven years ago. The ruling, made on March 7, marks a significant step in securing justice for the victim.
The victim, who was 13 at the time of the incident in September 2018, testified that Vicky, alias Gudya Datta Thorat, assaulted him in a public toilet in Ulhasnagar. Despite the defense's argument of inconsistencies in the boy's statements and lack of corroborative injuries, the court found the victim's account credible and trustworthy.
In addition to the prison sentence, Judge V A Patravale imposed a fine of Rs 31,000 on Thorat, directing the amount be paid to the minor. The District Legal Services Authority was tasked with considering further compensation under the Victim's Compensation Scheme.
