Women's Reservation Act: Call for All-Party Consensus

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has urged Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju to convene an all-party meeting, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to strategize the implementation of the Women's Reservation Act.

The Act, formally titled 'Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam', was unanimously passed by Parliament in September 2023. Kharge emphasized the necessity of opposition involvement in shaping the roadmap for its enactment.

The government is eyeing an amendment that might introduce the legislation before the delimitation exercise concludes, but the Cabinet is yet to approve the measure. This move could see the legislative proposal presented to the Rajya Sabha shortly.
