South Korea's Dilemma: Warship Deployment in Gulf Tensions

South Korea's Defence Minister, Ahn Gyu-back, asserted that deploying a warship to the Strait of Hormuz needs parliamentary consent. Seoul currently has no plans to send the ROKS Dae Jo-yeong. South Korea maintains a military presence in the Middle East with the Cheonghae unit operating in anti-piracy missions.

South Korea's Defence Minister Ahn Gyu-back highlighted that sending a warship to the Strait of Hormuz would necessitate parliamentary approval.

Seoul has currently decided against deploying the Cheonghae unit's warship, ROKS Dae Jo-yeong, to this strategically vital region.

Since 2009, South Korea has stationed military forces in the Middle East, with the Cheonghae unit actively escorting merchant vessels near the Somali coast in anti-piracy efforts.
