A harrowing night unfolded in Maiduguri city, northeastern Nigeria, as at least 23 people were killed and more than 100 wounded in a series of suspected suicide bombings on Monday night, police confirmed Tuesday.
The explosions targeted crowded locations, including a major market and the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital entrance, marking one of the deadliest attacks in recent history. Local authorities suspect the involvement of Boko Haram, a jihadi group notorious for its brutal insurgency.
Witnesses described the ensuing chaos and the desperate need for blood to treat the injured, emphasizing the tragic toll such violence continues to have on the community. Despite a period of relative peace, Maiduguri is once again reminded of its vulnerability to extremist attacks.
