In a compelling address at the 2nd Bharat Legal Conclave, former Supreme Court justice Mukundakam Sharma stressed the significance of updating India's legal framework in response to globalisation. As India pivots towards an open economy, Sharma underlined the importance of evolving laws to meet emerging global standards.
Speaking at the event organized by the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM), Sharma reflected on India's transition from a socialist to a more market-oriented economy. He noted the inherent conflicts between these economic systems, pointing out that even traditionally communist countries like China and Russia acknowledge the benefits of an open economy.
Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, joining virtually, underscored the necessity for India's legal system to keep up with rapid technological advancements. Emphasizing the Digital India initiative, Meghwal highlighted efforts to strengthen the rule of law by embracing technologies like AI, NLP, and OCR.
