The district court on Thursday heard testimony from police sub-inspector Yadunath Singh in the ongoing 2024 Hathras stampede case. Singh appeared before Additional Sessions Judge Mahendra Srivastava, with proceedings focused on the devastating religious event that claimed 121 lives.
Defense counsel Munna Singh Pundir noted that despite his deployment at Phulrai cut, Singh did not witness the stampede. The incident occurred between Mugalgadhi and Phulrai villages during a congregation led by Surajpal, known as Narayan Sakar Hari or Bhole Baba, on July 2, 2024.
A Special Investigation Team has already filed extensive chargesheets against 11 accused individuals, including Baba's aide Devprakash Madhukar. The trial continues with a scheduled hearing on March 27. All accused are currently out on bail.
