Methamphetamine tablets worth over Rs 23 crore were seized by the Assam Rifles from an abandoned vehicle in Mizoram's Champhai district, officials announced on Friday. Acting on a tip-off, Assam Rifles and police conducted a joint raid, discovering the contraband weighing 7.9 kg near Hmunhmeltha Road.
The vehicle, noted to have an Assam registration, was left behind by peddlers who likely fled on sensing the presence of security forces. With an estimated market value of Rs 23.73 crore, the seized drugs present a significant find in the region, officials noted.
Both the vehicle and the methamphetamine tablets have now been handed over to the Excise and Narcotics Department in Champhai for further investigation. Known as 'crazy drug,' methamphetamine is a highly addictive substance banned in India. Efforts to trace the suspects are ongoing, involving a comprehensive manhunt.
