Omar Abdullah Opposes Bill to Amend PSG Act, Promises Comprehensive Review

Jammu and Kashmir's Chief Minister Omar Abdullah firmly opposed a private member's bill on Wednesday that sought alterations to the Public Service Guarantee Act. The Chief Minister assured the legislative assembly of a comprehensive review to enhance the Act's effectiveness.

BJP legislator Ranbir Singh Pathania introduced the bill, arguing for amendments due to evolving circumstances and technological advancements. Abdullah recognized that while the Act had undergone significant changes since 2020, inefficiencies persisted, such as delays in the appellate process.

Abdullah emphasized the Act's intent of timely service delivery and stressed the importance of identifying shortcomings. He announced the formation of a senior officers' group to evaluate the Act and recommend changes. Urging careful consideration over speedy decisions, Abdullah encouraged Pathania to withdraw the bill, a suggestion that Pathania accepted.
