Union Home Minister Amit Shah has launched India's pioneering self-enumeration census, marking a significant shift in the data collection process. This initiative allows citizens to upload personal information online via a dedicated portal.

Shah encouraged citizens to actively participate, highlighting this as a crucial step toward enhancing the delivery of government schemes across the nation. As of Wednesday, the census operation began across eight states and Union Territories, including parts of New Delhi.

The Census will be conducted in two phases: beginning with the housing census, followed by population enumeration. The entire operation will leverage digital tools, with officials using a specialized mobile app to gather data directly from households, ensuring comprehensive coverage.
