In a landmark decision, Parliament confirmed Amaravati as the official capital of Andhra Pradesh by passing the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2026. The Rajya Sabha approved the motion with a voice vote on Thursday, following the Lok Sabha's nod on Wednesday.
Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai celebrated the occasion, extending his best wishes to Andhra Pradesh and emphasizing the state's potential to contribute to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of 'Viksit Bharat.' Rai termed the event as historic, marking a significant step towards the state's development.
Support for the bill was echoed by several members, including TDP's Masthan Rao Yadav Beedha and Minister of Civil Aviation K Rammohan Naidu, who highlighted Amaravati's significance due to its strategic location, rich history, and development potential.
