The Uttarakhand government has launched a state-wide verification of madrasas amidst reports of children from other states being brought to these institutions. The government's directive aims to ensure compliance and transparency within these educational settings, prioritizing children's safety.
District magistrates of key districts, including Dehradun and Haridwar, have been instructed to thoroughly investigate the origins of the children's arrivals and secure parental consent. Moreover, the probe will extend to identifying the individuals responsible for bringing these children into the state.
This verification initiative is part of a broader effort to understand the ground realities and ensure all madrasas comply with the regulations. The government also highlights the forthcoming cessation of the existing Madrasa Board under the Uttarakhand Minority Education Act, mandating new affiliations and recognitions for madrasas starting in 2026.
