The Tipra Motha Party (TMP) is poised for a decisive victory in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council elections, leading in 22 of the 28 seats after the third round of vote counting. The BJP holds a lead in six seats, whereas the CPI(M), Congress, and Indigenous People's Front of Tripura are trailing behind.

Although the TMP is a significant partner in the state's BJP-led coalition government, both parties contested the tribal council elections independently. The counting process commenced peacefully at 8 a.m. across 17 centers under stringent security arrangements, according to Bipul Barman, the officer on special duty in the state election commission.

The 2021 results had seen the TMP secure 18 seats while the BJP obtained nine. This time, voter turnout was impressive, with 83 percent casting their votes amid minor instances of violence on April 12. The TTAADC covers two-thirds of Tripura's geographical area and is home to about 1.3 million people. In the previous council, TMP held 17 seats while the BJP had nine with two vacancies.
