Myanmar's former President Win Myint was granted freedom on Friday, as part of an extensive prisoner amnesty orchestrated by the newly inaugurated President Min Aung Hlaing to commemorate the traditional New Year, as per reports from state-run media.

This clemency order affected more than 4,500 prisoners, yet the inclusion of individuals imprisoned for opposing the military regime remains uncertain.

Although Win Myint was released, notable figures like the 80-year-old former leader Aung San Suu Kyi remain in custody. Suu Kyi's sentence was partially reduced, but she still faces over two decades of confinement.
