Dubai police have apprehended Daniel Kinahan, an Irishman purported to be a major figure in organized crime, according to Irish media reports on Friday. Authorities in Dubai confirmed the arrest of an 'Irish fugitive' linked to an organized criminal syndicate involved in international offenses, omitting to officially name Kinahan.

The apprehension occurred on Wednesday, executed after a judicial file was received from Irish officials, as stated by Dubai police. Reports from The Irish Times suggest the charges against Kinahan pertain to a notorious gangland conflict in Ireland. Additional Irish media outlets, including state broadcaster RTE, have named Kinahan as the individual in question.

Daniel Kinahan was identified as one of the top three leaders of the Kinahan Organised Crime Group by U.S. authorities in 2022, when a $5 million bounty was placed on their capture. The U.S. Treasury has compared the Kinahan narcotics network to some of the world's most infamous criminal organizations, noting its frequent use of Dubai as a strategic base for illicit operations.
