Businessman Under Fire: Stolen Car Scam Unveiled

A businessman in Bilaspur has been accused of selling a stolen vehicle to a buyer, defrauding him of Rs 14 lakh. The suspect, Arafat Hussain, allegedly used fake documentation to close the deal. The transaction was uncovered following a police investigation, leading to criminal charges.

In Bilaspur, police have filed criminal charges against a businessman who allegedly sold a stolen vehicle in a fraudulent transaction amounting to Rs 14 lakh. The incident came to light when an investigation revealed that the SUV was stolen.

The accused, Arafat Hussain, who deals in second-hand vehicles, completed the sale in December 2025, using fake documentation including a phony number plate, chassis, engine numbers, and a forged registration certificate. The buyer, Ashok Kumar, had paid Rs 3 lakh upfront and secured a loan for Rs 11.50 lakh from Punjab National Bank.

The fraudulent activity was discovered when Kumar deposited Rs 10.50 lakh into Hussain's HDFC Bank account. Bilaspur SP Sandeep Dhawal confirmed that the police are actively investigating, adding that a related case has also been registered in Amritsar, Punjab.
