The family of Jasim, a 55-year-old accused of raping and murdering his four-year-old niece, have refused to claim his body after he was killed in a police encounter in Ghaziabad. Local residents have expressed support for the police action.
The accused, Jasim, allegedly concealed the victim's body in a car before fleeing. Despite a Rs 50,000 bounty on his head and CCTV evidence placing him at a Delhi railway station, he was killed during a confrontation with police at Teela Mod after opening fire while trying to escape arrest.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Atul Kumar Singh reported that Jasim was shot fatally when he resisted arrest, and two officers were injured in the process. Both officers are now in stable condition. The community has largely supported the police's actions, deeming them necessary due to the nature of Jasim's alleged crimes. Investigations are still ongoing.
