The Chhattisgarh assembly witnessed the tabling of a crucial resolution on Thursday, fronted by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, advocating for one-third reservation for women in both Parliament and state legislative assemblies. The initiative targets women's empowerment and aims for implementation after the delimitation process.
This proposal follows the setback in the Lok Sabha where a similar measure was defeated. The Constitution Amendment Bill, intending to instate a 33 percent reservation for women in legislatures by 2029 and expand Lok Sabha seats, failed to receive the required two-thirds majority during its vote.
The session in Chhattisgarh was marked by debates and exchanges between parties, with the opposition expressing disappointment at their resolution not being entertained. Despite this, the government emphasized the importance of the measure, highlighting its role in ensuring dignified representation for women in legislative bodies.
