Census 2027 marks a significant turning point in India's data collection history as Meghalaya prepares for the first fully digital census beginning with the self-enumeration phase on May 1. This transition to digital, facilitated through mobile applications and a specialized Census Management and Monitoring System (CMMS), is set to revolutionize the accuracy and efficiency of the census process.
Citizens will have an opportunity to participate in self-enumeration via an online portal between May 1 and May 15. This phase will be succeeded by the House Listing Operations (HLO) from May 16 to June 14, where data on housing and amenities will be gathered. According to Biswajit Pegu, the Director of Census Operations, this digital shift will bring about greater transparency and swifter processing, ensuring timely publication of results.
Approximately 9,000 enumerators and supervisors will be engaged, bolstered by a comprehensive monitoring system. To support public participation, a national toll-free helpline has been launched. Officials encourage citizens to engage fully in the process, which will deliver precise and dependable data crucial for planning and development.
