Mizoram Celebrates End of Insurgency as Last Group Lays Down Arms
The last faction of the Hmar People's Convention (Democratic) in Mizoram surrendered, marking the end of insurgency in the state. Mizoram has officially become 'insurgency-free' as the last ethnic rebel group, the Hmar People's Convention (Democratic) or HPC(D), laid down arms in a significant ceremony held on Thursday. The group, led by Lalhmingthanga Sanate, surrendered after years of sporadic criminal activity, marking a historic peace milestone for the state.
The event was graced by Chief Minister Lalduhoma, who expressed his relief and pride in finally achieving peace in Mizoram. He called for unity among the Mizo tribes, emphasizing the importance of a collective Mizo identity over separatist ideologies that could disrupt newfound harmony.
Home Minister K Sapdanga lauded the surrender as a historic moment, crediting Lalduhoma for his relentless pursuit of peace. The administration promised to work collaboratively with the reintegrated cadres to realize their aspirations peacefully and democratically.
