A severe breach of data security emerged as the Paris prosecutor's office investigates a 15-year-old accused of hacking into the country's ID agency. The teenager allegedly tried to sell the sensitive data of millions of French citizens on the dark web.
Detained on April 25, the young suspect is believed to operate under the alias 'breach3d.' He reportedly listed between 12 to 18 million lines of data on hacker forums. If found guilty, he faces up to seven years in prison and a 300,000 euros fine under data theft charges.
The ANTS agency confirmed the breach, emphasizing the data's authenticity. It detected unusual activities on April 13, later advising French citizens to exercise caution. The cyberattack has sparked concerns about storing sensitive information in centralized databases in France.
