Imran Khan, Pakistan's former prime minister, has called on the Islamabad High Court to grant his release, highlighting humanitarian and compassionate reasons. His plea, presented by counsel Salman Safdar, points to extended solitary confinement and an alarming eye infection.

The plea follows convictions for Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, in a sprawling 190-million-pound corruption case. The Islamabad accountability court, in January last year, sentenced Khan to 14 years and Bibi to seven years. The alleged misconduct involves using the Al-Qadir Trust as a front for unauthorized transactions.

Khan's legal team argues that prolonged detention has worsened his eyesight drastically, with reports claiming he has lost 85% of his vision. Despite frequent appeals and hearings, the court has not yet resolved the case, extending Khan's confinement. The defense calls for immediate intervention to alleviate health risks and improve detention conditions.
