Amid escalating tensions within the Trinamool Congress (TMC), party leader Kunal Ghosh became the target of a symbolic egg attack, allegedly orchestrated by youth affiliated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Ghosh remained undeterred, declaring that such incidents would not intimidate him from his political course.

The incident occurred outside West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s residence during a press interaction. Ghosh, dismissing the attack as mere cowardice, accused law enforcement of inaction despite being present at the scene. He has filed a complaint with the Police Commissioner citing security concerns around the incident.

The internal discord within TMC has been further complicated by the defection of several MPs to the lesser-known Nationalist Citizens Party of India (NCPI), in what Ghosh describes as a blatant display of 'shameful democracy' and lack of 'political prestige'. This move, soliciting new alignments with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), was confirmed as TMC faces potential fragmentation.
