The Congress on Friday criticized Home Minister Amit Shah regarding his visit to Ladakh, accusing him of ignoring the region's calls for statehood and local protections. Instead, Shah focused on the Piprahwa relics exhibition, according to Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh.

Ramesh referenced India's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, and his historical visit to Ladakh in 1949. Nehru had facilitated the return of Buddhist relics taken by the British, eventually having them displayed in Ladakh, a gesture appreciated by the local people.

The Congress urged the government to respond to Ladakh's demands for statehood and Sixth Schedule status. Shah's attendance at the international exposition of Buddha's holy relics highlighted an oversight of local issues, they argue.
