High Seas Standoff: Pro-Palestinian Activists Intercepted En Route to Gaza
More than 100 pro-Palestinian activists were detained by Israeli forces while attempting to deliver aid to Gaza. The activists, part of a flotilla, aimed to break Israel’s blockade of Gaza. Despite international criticism, Israel maintains its blockade for security reasons.
Israeli forces intercepted more than 100 pro-Palestinian activists on ships headed towards Gaza, taking them to Crete after seizing their vessels in international waters near Greece, organizers of the Global Sumud flotilla reported.
The flotilla, launched from Barcelona in an effort to deliver humanitarian aid and challenge Gaza's blockade, faced significant obstacles. An Israeli army ship redirected 168 crew members to Greek boats for transfer to the mainland.
Controversy surrounds the flotilla, with Israel labeling organizers as provocateurs and the U.S. threatening repercussions, asserting the group supports Hamas. Amid ongoing tensions, pro-Palestinian advocates emphasize their intent to highlight rights issues for Gaza's residents.
