In a significant legal development, a local MP/MLA court rebuffed a plea on Saturday for obtaining a voice sample of Rae Bareli MP Rahul Gandhi. The request stemmed from a defamation case initiated by BJP functionary Vijay Mishra.
The court's decision follows a protracted legal joust since 2018 when the controversy sparked amidst Karnataka's Assembly elections. Mishra's legal team, led by counsel Santosh Kumar Pandey, aimed to compare Gandhi's voice to an audio clip for forensic analysis.
After intense arguments from both the plaintiff and the defense, represented by counsel Kashi Prasad Shukla, the court dismissed the plea and scheduled further proceedings for May 11. Gandhi's camp decries the case as a political ploy while preparing for a potential appeal to the sessions court.
