The BJP orchestrated a women's torchlight protest march in the state capital on Saturday, turning the spotlight on opposition parties over women's reservation issues. Under the banner of 'women's outrage,' the march started from Lok Bhavan and concluded at Atal Chowk in Hazratganj, drawing a substantial gathering of women participants.
Distinguished BJP leaders, including state president and Union Minister Pankaj Chaudhary, were in attendance, although Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and his deputies had last-minute scheduling conflicts. Protestors targeted the Samajwadi Party and Congress, accusing them of blocking the women's reservation bill recently defeated in the Lok Sabha.
The contentious bill, falling short of the required majority, aimed to ensure 33% women's reservation in Lok Sabha and state assemblies. Addressing the protest, Chaudhary emphasized BJP's focus on women's empowerment and criticized opposition double standards. The event saw women holding placards and chanting slogans against opposing parties.
