Pioneering Paperless Judiciary: Sikkim's Leap Towards Digital India

Sikkim is set to become India's first state to have a paperless judiciary, marking a significant stride towards the 'Digital India' initiative. This move aims to enhance transparency and accessibility, leveraging technology for efficient judicial processes and empowering future legal leadership.

The Sikkim judiciary is set to become the country's first to operate completely without paper, marking a milestone in India's 'Digital India' initiative. Governor Om Prakash Mathur, speaking at the conclusion of a conference on judicial technology, acclaimed the state's historic step forward.

During the event held at Chintan Bhawan in Gangtok, Chief Justice of India Surya Kant declared Sikkim's judiciary paperless. Governor Mathur highlighted that this transition will not only expedite justice but also make it more transparent and accessible through e-filing and digital record-keeping.

He emphasized the importance of integrating technical innovations, like artificial intelligence and digital management, in judicial processes, noting their role in shaping a new, modern democratic era by organizing legal education and empowering future leaders.
