Missile Strikes in Merefa: Russian Aggression Intensifies
A Russian missile attack on Merefa in Ukraine's Kharkiv region has resulted in five deaths and numerous injuries, damaging residential and commercial structures. Ukrainian officials condemn the assault on civilian infrastructure and report the use of an Iskander-type ballistic missile by Russian forces.
In a tragic escalation of conflict, a Russian missile strike slammed into the town of Merefa in Ukraine's northeastern Kharkiv region, leading to the loss of five civilian lives and injuring several more as confirmed by Ukrainian authorities on Monday.
According to Regional Governor Oleh Syniehubov, the attack resulted in significant destruction, damaging at least 10 houses, an administrative building, multiple shops, a car repair workshop, and a food establishment. The missile hit civilian infrastructure that lies distant from the front, sparking condemnation from local officials.
Regional prosecutors identified the weapon as an Iskander-type ballistic missile. Emergency services have released images revealing the aftermath: a building with severe roof damage, a burning car, and a wounded woman attended to by rescuers. Although Russia has denied targeting civilians, Ukrainian casualties remain staggering since the full-scale invasion began in February 2022.
