Jammu and Kashmir's Intense Crackdown on Drug Trafficking

The 'Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan,' led by Lt. Gov. Manoj Sinha, has resulted in over 500 arrests and property seizures worth Rs 14.50 crore. Launched to combat drug abuse, significant quantities of narcotics were confiscated across the region, emphasizing the initiative's focus on youth and community engagement.

In a determined attempt to curb drug abuse, particularly among the youth, the ongoing 'Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan' has led to over 500 arrests and the attachment of properties valued at over Rs 14.50 crore, officials announced on Tuesday.

The initiative, spearheaded by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, was launched from Jammu on April 11. It has seen the seizure of substantial quantities of narcotics, including 4.7 kg of heroin, 27.13 kg of charas, and over 209 kg of ganja. Movable and immovable properties linked to drug peddlers have been systematically attached across the region as part of the extensive campaign.

Lt. Gov. Sinha has warned that drug traffickers would be treated as terrorists under the law, emphasizing the serious threat narcotics smuggling poses, akin to terrorism. The campaign was inaugurated with a padyatra led by Sinha and has since engaged three to four lakh people, highlighting public participation and awareness in combating this social menace.
