An unsettling series of blasts shook Punjab on Tuesday night, raising alarms about regional security. In Amritsar, an explosion occurred near the army cantonment area in Khasa, just hours after a similar incident took place outside the Border Security Force's Punjab Frontier headquarters in Jalandhar. Luckily, no injuries were reported in either incident.
According to Amritsar (Rural) Senior Superintendent of Police Suhail Mir Qasim, their teams immediately responded to reports of the blasts. Preliminary findings indicated that an explosive device was hurled at a boundary wall in Amritsar, causing damage. Forensic experts and the bomb disposal squad were summoned for further investigation.
Political leaders, including Shiromani Akali Dal President Sukhbir Singh Badal and Punjab Congress Chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, have criticized the state's handling of these occurrences. They demanded accountability and action, citing repeated intelligence failures and jeopardized public safety. The national government has also been called upon to address these security breaches effectively.
