A Delhi court has directed the framing of corruption and conspiracy charges against former railway supplier R K Bhalotia in a case filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in 2014. The proceedings mark the commencement of a trial that has been long-awaited.

However, the court discharged a former employee, Shyam Sundar Basak, working for M/s Ridhi Sidhi Udyog Ltd. It concluded that there was no evidence to suggest his involvement in the alleged conspiracy with Bhalotia, stressing that mere suspicion cannot substitute for solid proof.

The accusations involve Bhalotia bribing a railway account assistant, Joginder Pal Kohli, for expedited payment disbursements. Special Judge Arun Sukhija observed that Basak, who filled out a bank deposit slip linked to the bribery, was merely executing his clerical duties under employer instructions, and his actions do not imply conspiracy.
