The Delhi High Court has denied bail to a self-proclaimed faith healer accused of sexually assaulting a minor girl under the guise of spiritual treatment. The accused, who posed as a maulvi and healer, could not convince the court to grant him bail due to the grave nature of the allegations and the case's progression.
The incident reportedly occurred in 2019 when the family of the 17-year-old victim sought the accused's help, believing she was possessed by a jinn. The accused allegedly exploited the family's trust, claiming the spirit would only leave through obscene acts, and proceeded to sexually assault the minor.
The court highlighted that while the accused has been in custody for six years, the trial is at an advanced stage, necessitating an expedited resolution by the trial court. Allegations concerning witness reliability remain under scrutiny as the trial continues.
