A 35-year-old TVK functionary has been arrested in connection with the sexual harassment of a minor in the city, police reported on Wednesday. The suspect, Dinesh alias 'Pambu' Dinesh, resides in Kasimedu and holds a local leadership position within the TVK.
The incident is said to have occurred on April 23, when a 10-year-old girl was visiting her grandmother near the accused's home. Dinesh is alleged to have lured her to his room and sexually harassed her, further threatening her with harm should she disclose the event.
After the girl confided in her aunt in Mylapore, her parents filed a complaint on May 3 at Kasimedu police station. The case was transferred to the Royapettah All Women Police Station, given its alignment with the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Dinesh, who evaded arrest by fleeing to a counting center in R K Nagar, was finally apprehended late Tuesday night by a special police team. He has since been placed in judicial custody under the POCSO Act.
