In a major milestone for India Post's modernization drive, Union Minister for Communications and Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia virtually inaugurated the country's 100th N-Gen Post Office at North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong, marking a new phase in the transformation of traditional postal infrastructure into digitally enabled, youth-centric community spaces.
The upgraded facility, inaugurated on May 6, 2026, has been designed as a modern postal and social interaction hub tailored specifically for students, faculty members and campus residents, combining digital services, collaborative spaces and cultural identity within a contemporary public infrastructure model.
Officials described the N-Gen initiative as one of India Post's most innovative youth outreach programmes aimed at reimagining the role of post offices in a rapidly evolving digital society.

Describing it as a "beautiful journey of transformation and participation," Scindia said the initiative reflects India Post's evolution alongside India's broader developmental transformation.
"India Post is moving along the developmental curve of India, evolving in tandem with the aspirations of a young and dynamic nation," he said.

Ms Shayontika Nandi, a fourth-year student who participated in the design process, said the team adopted a next-generation design theme inspired by Shillong's music culture.
"We were able to revamp the post office with a next-generation theme," she said, describing the project as both exciting and meaningful.
Another student, Ms Sneha Das from the Department of Architecture, said the transformed facility has become a vibrant and engaging social space where students enjoy spending time together.
