Private hospitals and doctors in Jaipur went on an indefinite strike, suspending OPD, IPD and emergency services, after medical organisations alleged assault and intimidation of family members of jailed doctor Sondev Bansal during proceedings related to his bail plea in the Rajasthan High Court on Thursday. Medical bodies, including the Indian Medical Association (IMA), Jaipur branch announced the boycott on Thursday night, saying the incident has created fear and anger among doctors across the state. According to the organisations, Bansal's bail plea came up for hearing in the Jaipur bench of the Rajasthan High Court on Thursday during which a group of lawyers allegedly raised slogans and created a ruckus inside the courtroom, leading to adjournment of the matter till May 11. The doctors' bodies alleged that after the hearing, Bansal's father and brother were stopped and taken to a bar room where they were allegedly threatened, abused and assaulted. The controversy erupted after the death of a lawyer's mother during treatment at a private hospital in Jaipur in September 2025 under the RGHS scheme. Doctors' organisations claimed a medical board did not find negligence in treatment, but an FIR was later registered against Bansal over alleged irregularities linked to the scheme and he was arrested. The protesting organisations demanded immediate justice for Bansal, action against those accused of disrupting judicial proceedings, and security for doctors and their families.
