The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) is ruled by the BJP-Shiv Sena coalition. Speaking to reporters after a function here on Saturday, Kelkar claimed the TMC has failed to provide basic amenities to the city's 27 lakh residents. ''Improper planning is the root of these woes,'' he said, questioning how high-rises are cleared without a guaranteed water supply. Even after 43 years of existence, the TMC has failed to construct its own dam, Kelkar pointed out. He accused the administration of environmental negligence and called for an urgent review of ongoing projects.
